Explore miles
and miles of ecologically sound rangeland in the
Wind River Mountain foothills that are home to
eagles, moose, elk, antelope, mountain lions, bear,
beaver and migrating songbirds. At an
elevation of 6,500 feet the ranch is surrounded by
crimson red sandstone bluffs dotted with junipers
and set against the endless blue Wyoming sky. This
is a working cattle ranch where you can live the
real cowboy life roping, reining, cutting, branding,
and spending plenty of saddle time on this vast
open—range outfit in the shadows of the majestic
Wind River Mountains. Catching and saddling your
sound ranch horse at sun-up, you will cover miles
every day caring for nearly 1000 head of cattle and
the land upon which they depend. In the spring you
will help bring the cattle to summer range in the
mountains and learn to rope as we put the Three
Quarter Circle brand on the calves. In the fall you
can practice your cutting skills as we sort the
cattle on the open range. Horses play an important
role in ranch life and you'll have the opportunity
for unlimited riding.
A
trout filled creek meanders through grassy meadows
and beckons to the urban cowboy just as much has it
beckoned to pioneering cattle ranchers who
homesteaded this valley a hundred years ago. The
Three Quarter Circle sprawls over 15,000 acres of
rugged mountains, lush valleys and and rangeland.
The natural beauty and pure emptiness of this
magnificent part of the west is truly inspiring. To
share it with people who still make their living so
close to the land is refreshing and very real. This
is a real working cattle ranch that welcomes folks
who want to live the cowboy life. Guests get to
participate and do things the ranch cowboys do in
their everyday life.

Location:
Tucked up against Wyoming's Wind River
Mountains in a spectacular land of red sandstone
cliffs and lush spring-fed valleys is Twin Creek
Ranch. Here the Malmberg family lives a life
reflecting their passions: caring for the land,
growing healthy food, and providing a place where
people find renewal and rejuvenation.
The ranch
is on the northern edge of the famous Red Desert,
home to thousands of wild mustangs, antelope and
even a herd of desert elk. The Oregon Trail crosses
the Continental Divide here and the wagon ruts are
still visible. Historic old ghost towns, the
majestic Wind River Mountains, nearby Lander, and
the Wind River Indian Reservation are all within 25
miles of the ranch.
Your hosts:
Once a traditional rancher, Tony Malmberg
began to view his ranch differently after attending
a Holistic Management seminar offered by The Savory
Center in 1987. Putting what he learned into
practice, Tony has improved his land—using livestock
to increase wildlife populations on the ranch and
has won numerous stewardship awards. Grass-finished
double-aged beef production, however, still holds
center stage at Twin Creek. All of Twin Creek's
sales, apart from those to a local smoke house and
grill, are direct to the consumer—"co-creators" as
Andrea likes to call her supporters. Since many of
their customers also visit the ranch, the Malmbergs
have an opportunity to explain their land management
practices and to demonstrate the land's remarkable
recovery. Andrea says, "We have become increasingly
respectful of the earth and the wild and domestic
animals that make this place their home. Moreover,
we have become more aware of whom we serve—our
customers. Without these co-creators all would be
for naught."
