Arizona's superb weather conditions allow for outdoor activities all
year-round. The Arizona sunrise will introduce you to a
bright, fresh start for a fun-packed day. The magnificent sunset
will surely amaze you before you eventually relax to reminisce the
day by a roaring campfire under a blanket of spectacular stars.
Arizona, the state for turquoise, silver, and copper is speckled
with hidden, secret ghost towns, some dating back to the "Gold Rush"
days. Arizona is also the home of many well- known Indian tribes,
such as Apache, Hopi, Navajo, Pima, Papago, Yuma, and others. All horses used on our
treks in Arizona are gaited horses-what a treat! You will be spoiled by the
smooth gait of these horses which eliminates up and down jarring and makes
traveling long distances much more comfortable.
ARIZONA'S HIGH COUNTRY
The original state capital, Prescott, sits amidst mountains,
pure forests, scenic canyons and valleys, prehistoric Indian dwellings, cattle
ranches, and a continuous series of active mines where miners are constantly
searching for precious metals, surround the entire area. The High Country in
Arizona rises vast and green across the east central part of the state. The
Mogollon rim reaches 7,500 ft., and in some areas massive slopes drop a sheer
1000 ft. Tonto National Forest marks the center of the world's largest native
stand of Ponderosa Pine. In this area, you can expect to find some of the
earth's most serene beauty.
NAVAJO CANYONLANDS-MONUMENT VALLEY AND CANYON DE
CHELLY
Movie makers catapulted this area to stardom, making it the
most famous and universally recognized part of the Navajo reservation. Free
standing, awe inspiring rock formations protrude from the earth to staggering
heights. Spider Rock is an 800' monolith that is the legendary home of the
Spider Woman, a Navajo deity. There are about 2000 prehistoric sites and 12
major ruins in the canyon. It is believed that the Anasazi Indians came to this
area about 200 AD and stayed until a drought caused them to leave late in the
13th century. The Navajos arrived sometime during the 15th Century and are still
there today. Canyon de Chelly has more than 100 miles of secluded sandstone
canyon.
LUSH DESERT AREAS-CAVE CREEK AND SEVEN SPRINGS
Each desert trail is a glorious adventure into the sunshine
and peaceful silence of the great outdoors. Desert trails wind, twist, and
wander between magnificent species of Arizona cacti, trees, and other desert
vegetation. You'll be constantly in awe of the magnificent shapes and stature of
the saguaro cactus which grows only in Arizona and Sonora, Mexico. This cactus
can grow to 50' high and weigh as much as 5 tons and live for 300 years. Its
beautiful blossom is Arizona's state flower. Riding these desert trails, you may
encounter a prospector's cap, small mines, cottage homes, and many forms of
wildlife, and the unexpected waterholes, waterfalls, and springs amidst luscious
desert landscape.
ARIZONA'S MAGNIFICENT RED ROCK COUNTRY AND SEDONA
Unbelievable is the only way to describe nature's combination
of wonderful color and form. Orange and red rock sculptured formations arise in
great stature from the deepest red earthtone, which is decorated with green
foliage and many varieties of cacti. Reptiles left tracks in the sand dunes 260
million years ago, and where protected from erosion, they're still visible
today. Primitive images of animals and people can still be found on sandstone
cliffs near Sedona. Oak Creek Canyon is a fantasy land carved between the red
rocks. This area is perfect for horseback riding.
