Awareness Obstacles.
Tuesday AM:
Instructional Video - 1 hr.
Lecture: Exploring the interactive biomechanics of both horse and rider
during collection and downward transitions (the half-halt explained).
Examining the rider's role and responsibility as the horse's "personal
trainer".
Exercises: Learning how to rebalance, slow or stop your horse through the
use of the seat, without pulling.
Mounted: Exploring your new set of biomechanical tools with the practice
of transitions with the focus on the "feel," of the horse and his
responses.
Tuesday afternoon
Classroom; 1.5 hours
"Mind Body Management...the Unbendable Arm"
Introduction of visualization techniques to find "relaxed power" that
enhances successful handling of horse, including calming signals for
horses and humans"

and control the various directions and expressions of the horse's energy).
Exercises: Discovering and releasing body tension patterns on the mini
tramps.
Mounted: Continued work on transitions, work in the 3 seats at trot,
learning the geometry of the riding arena or training pen.
Wednesday
afternoon
Classroom 1.5 hours
"Bodywork Benefits" from Touch - students learn to aid understanding
through touch. Discussion of styles and purpose of evaluation techniques
before doing bodywork, includes discussion on saddle fit
Role-play of horse learning "turn on fore, turn on hindquarters"
Arena; 1.5 hours to 2 hours
Body Evaluation techniques on horses
Bodywork practice on horses
Groundwork; turn on fore, turn on hindquarters
Thursday AM:
Instruction Video - 1hr.
Lecture: The dynamics of bending line (lateral) balance in both rider and
horse.
Exercises: Where should you sit on your horse's back during a turn and
why.
Mounted: The importance of riding accurate figures, including balanced
bending lines (circles, serpentines, etc.). Straight lines, the key to
power.
Thursday afternoon
Classroom 1.5 hours
Movement awareness (Feldenkrais Method ATM's) to learn about balance when
bending. Safe and sane longeing using TTEAM leading lessons. Bodywraps;
safe use, form and function...human wrap time for body awareness lessons.

Groundwork; Fan obstacle for better bending with Balance, and pylon slalom
for lateral movements. How TTEAM leading positions evolve into safe, sane
longeing work
Friday AM:
Instructional Video - 1 hr.
Lecture: The biomechanics of the canter and lope.
Exercise: Training your hips to "glide," instead of bounce.
Mounted: If all students are ready, transitions to canter/lope and work in
canter/lope will be addressed today and/or basic lateral work will be
introduced.
Friday
afternoon - classroom 1.5 hours
Use of the neck lariat and neck reins, includes role play to refine form

DONNA SNYDER SMITH
Gifted teacher is the phrase most commonly uttered about Donna
Snyder-Smith. In a lifetime spent with horses, she has successfully competed
horses and coached students in open jumping, dressage, 3 day-eventing, western
pleasure, trail, and endurance. In 1966, on her first attempt at endurance
riding, she won her Tevis buckle, successfully completing the famous 100 Mile
One Day Ride. Several years later, in her second endurance event - the tough
Castle Rock 50, she finished a Quarter Horse gelding in the top ten and received
the Best Condition Award.
A clinician and Level III Centered Riding
instructor, Donna Snyder-Smith works with clients throughout the nation. Her
in-depth understanding of multiple equestrian disciplines, coupled with her
ability to communicate, allow her to address and improve a rider's
biomechanics (equitation) in a short amount of time. In a lifetime with
horses, we are fortunate to meet or spend even a small amount of time with a
master. Donna Snyder-Smith is a master teacher of the bio-mechanics of
effortless, effective riding.
Donna's insatiable curiosity has led her to explore
quite a bit of the equestrian landscape. She has hunted with the Fairfax,
Virginia hunt, studied dressage at the Augsburg Riding School in Germany, and
been an instructor, trainer and competitor in four FEI disciplines, including
dressage, jumpers, eventing. and endurance riding. Students and clients
across the United States have competed successfully in these disciplines and
include two World Gold Medal winners in endurance. Donna’s show ring
experience also includes the western disciplines of pleasure and trail, plus
breed shows including Arabians, Appaloosas, Quarter Horses and Mustangs.

Tina Hutton
Tina has been involved with horses for over thirty years. She has competed in
a variety of disciplines including Dressage, Western, Halter, Driving and
Endurance. She has been offering humane education for horses and riders of
every level for twenty years. Since 1985, Tina has been working her way
through the T.T.E.A.MSM Practitioner program. As of December '96,
she has joined the elite ranks of Level 3 Practitioner. At this time there is
only a handful in the world at this rating level.
The T.T.E.A.MSM training came into her life at a time when several
serious back injuries had threatened her career with horses. The Tellington-Jones
Equine Awareness Method is an innovative, non-violent way to deal with horses.
It is derived from a form of human movement re-organization process that is
called the Feldenkrais¨ Method. At Linda's urging, Tina began her own recovery
through the Feldenkrais¨ Method.
After two decades of combining these innovative methods of body re-education
in her professsion, Tina pursued and completed a three year European
Feldenkrais Practitioner Program under premier teacher Mia Segal.
Since "Centered Riding" has complemented the work developed in the T.T.E.A.MSM
method, Tina has also become a Centered Riding Instructor. This work has
forged a dynamic set of techniques that produce incredible performances and
result in pain-free riding in every equestrian discipline.
By integrating cutting edge techniques, Tina has made it her specialty to
customize instruction to meet the needs of each horse and rider. Her
communication skills, coupled with compassion for the learning process of her
students, has made Tina in demand as an educator of horsemanship.
Tina has seen these methods produce breakthrough results in her clinics and
private sessions throughout the Western U.S. and in Europe. Tina's goal is to
integrate the growing knowledge of her many experiences into cohesive
information that will enable horses and their owners to understand and enjoy
each other. She teaches the basics which can be easily and safely applied to
your horses at home.
