This
tour is the perfect add-on to your trip to Iceland or if you can´t spare
more than a few days for riding in Iceland´s wilderness. Although it is only
4 days long you experience many of the highlights that Iceland has to offer.
Experience riding on black and golden sand on this traditional trail on
Löngufjörur beach. View mystical Snćfellsjökull Glacier in a distance and
mighty Eldborgarhraun lava field on your way back to the farm. Enjoy riding
the Icelandic way with a herd of free horses running along and soak in a
nice hot bath in a swimming pool heated with geothermal water! Believe us,
there is no better way of combining activity, relaxation and getting to know
country and people. We do have your comfort in mind because for this tour
you don’t have to pack every day – each night we will return to the cozy
farm Stóri-Kálfalćkur and sleep in rooms with 2-4 made up beds and enjoy
Siggi´s and Ólöf´s well known hospitality.

Itinerary
Day 1
: Stóri-Kálfalćkur -
Kolviđarnes – Stóri-Kálfalćkur
Morning transfer to Stóri Kálfalćkur farm where our ride starts. After an
introduction to the Icelandic horse and its special gaits we ride down to
the shore. View Eldborgarhraun lava field and its crater on your way to
Kolviđarnes Farm, where we leave the horses. (5 – 6 hours)
Day 2
: Kolviđarnes – Trađir – Stóri-Kálfalćkur
After rejoining the horses we start our ride on Löngufjörur, the famous
horse trail on the seashores of the Snćfellsnes peninsula. View mystical
Snćfellsjökull Glacier ahead of you, known in literature to be the entrance
to the center of the earth. Feel the horses’ excitement and take part in
their joy on this extraordinary trail released by the tide. Our horses spend
the night at Trađir. (6 – 7 hours)
Day 3
: Trađir – Kolviđarnes –
Stóri-Kálfalćkur
Another day on the golden coloured, sandy beach. Direction changes and we
head back towards the mighty Eldborgarhraun lava field. A unique experience
for everyone with lava-fields and mountains on one side of the trail and the
open Atlantic Ocean on the other. (6 – 7 hours)
Day 4
: Kolviđarnes – Stóri-Kálfalćkur
Our
last day on the beach! The sand turns black as we follow the outline of the
Eldborgarhraun lava field. Imagine the black lava still on the move on your
way back to dry land. The ride ends at Stóri-Kálfalćkur Farm, where we bid
farewell to hosts and horses and drive back to Reykjavík. (5 – 6
hours)
Please note
that the beach ride is determined by the tide. Therefore the riding can
start at any hour of the day and even last into the night. Don't worry
though, the nights are bright at this time of the year.
Important: Knee-high rubber boots are essential for this tour!
