The 7-day trips (a shorter version of our longer
Continental Divide Rides) explore
the mountains on 5
riding days and will typically cover 100-120 km of both foothill and
mountain topography. Five days gives you lots of time to develop
an affection and appreciation for both your horse and the
Canadian wilderness, though almost everyone agrees that the time
flies quickly and they are left with the urge to return and
explore other untracked valleys and ridgelines.

Itinerary :
Day 1: Transfer at 4:00 PM from the Calgary airport
to Bragg Creek. Dinner (not included) and overnight in local B&B.
Day 2 Early morning
meeting in Bragg Creek (we can arrange overnights in Bragg Creek or
Calgary for you). At the Outpost you will meet your guide for the next
five days. First you will be matched with a horse of appropriate
temperament, pack up the horses and then the horseback-riding
adventure can begin. Today’s ride will take you below the jagged peaks of
the Opal Range of mountains into the valley of the Little Elbow river,
where our camp is set up. The riding time is 3 ½ hours.
Day 3 Today we will head out
for a day ride from the camp. There are several options depending on the
interests and experience of the riders. One is a short
ride and hike up to Talus Lake, an alpine jewel tucked into the side of
Mount Cornwall. Another option is a longer ride to Paradise Pass
(elevation
2,800 metres), where you might see some herds of elk and bighorn sheep.
After the 5 hour ride, there will be enough time to relax in the camp.
Day 4 After a hearty breakfast we
break camp and ride south into the valley of the Big Elbow river, passing
by the Tombstone Lakes at an elevation of 2,500
meters. We will set up a new camp in the Valley of the Big Elbow and if
time allows explore other lakes and valleys in the area. Total riding time
is 3 – 5 hours.
Day 5 We break camp and ride
through the Big Elbow Valley to our main camp at the base of Forgetmenot
Ridge, this will take us about 4 hours.
Day 6 We ride into the
spectacular Box Canyon. It is richly rewarding in scenery as it takes one
into the austere beauty of the Rockies above the tree line. Then we pick up
the trail back to the Outpost. Riding time is 5 hours. Overnight
at local B&B. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant (not included).
Day 7 Transfer to Calgary after breakfast.
